The Most Reverend Dr. Edward Tamba Charles is the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Freetown, Sierra Leone.
Early Life and Education
Born on April 18, 1956, in Kainkordu, Sierra Leone, Archbishop Charles is the son of Mr. Sahr Charles and Mrs. Sia Kormoe Charles. He is the brother of three sisters: Finda Njabu, Yei Charles, and Chief Bondu Kardu.
Archbishop Charles’ academic journey began at St. Kizito (1977-1978) and continued at St. Paul’s College-Seminary, Gbarnga, Bong County, Liberia (Pre-Major Year). He then pursued higher education at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he earned:
– Bachelor in Philosophy (1982)
– Bachelor in Sacred Theology (1985)
– Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology
– Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology (1996)
